The question sounds technical, but it is really about how your customer makes decisions. Let us look at when one page is enough and when it gets in the way.
When a landing page is enough
One page works if you have one service or one product and the decision is quick and emotional.
- You are launching ads for a specific query
- You are releasing a new product and testing demand
- You are running a time-limited promotion
- You are collecting sign-ups for an event or course
The strength of a landing page is focus. No menu, no distracting sections, all the copy leads to one button. And it launches in a week.
When you need a multi-page site
As soon as you have more than one service with different audiences, a single page starts losing.
- Each service has its own search queries and needs its own page
- The customer takes time and wants to study the company
- You need cases, documents, team, certificates
- You plan to run a blog and collect search traffic
More on the format: corporate websites.
The main argument is search
This is the part most often forgotten. A landing page can only rank for one group of queries. A multi-page site gets a page per service, and each ranks separately.
If you count on organic traffic rather than paid ads alone, one page limits you from the start.
The middle option
Often the right answer is not «or» but «and». A main site with service sections plus separate landing pages for ad campaigns. The site collects search traffic, the landing pages serve paid.
That is what almost everyone buying ads at scale does: a dedicated landing page per campaign, general information on the site.
What to choose
Answer three questions. How many services do you have and are their customers different? Do you plan on search traffic or only ads? How long does the customer take to decide?
A common mistake: a landing page «to grow into»
Sometimes a landing page is built expecting to «grow it into a site later». In practice that is almost always a rebuild from scratch: a one-pager has a different data structure, navigation and logic.
If you already know you will need service sections and a blog in six months, it is cheaper to lay down a multi-page structure now and release the first version with a minimum of pages.
